Simple Man
Dominique Strauss-Kahn told the CBI annual conference of business leaders that another huge call on public finances by the financial services sector would not be tolerated by the “man in the street” and could even threaten democracy.
'Most advanced economies will not accept any more [bailouts]...The political reaction will be very strong, putting some democracies at risk,' he told delegates..."
Overall, I should say that I agree with the basic statement being made here, before I point out the obvious fact that few groups probably have more invested in the ruination of democracy than the good folks at the International Monetary Fund.
Also, I should point out that -- while it does my heart good to see that they actually *ARE* at least a little worried about the plebes revolting -- it'll never happen. The overlords, sadly, are safe. The reason I know this is because: A.) Too many of us are too invested in our pop culture comas, sitting down to our takeout dinners-in-a-bag from Fatty McFat Burger and settling in to watch Dancing With The Stars religiously as though it had a single redeeming, thought-provoking moment in the entire broadcast; and, B.) We are obviously too retarded to even remember that we don't even practice Democracy! Rather, we live in a Republic where we elect representatives to do our voting for us. The part we don't realize and the part that keeps these vampires-of-the-human-soul that run places like Goldman Sachs safe from the rest of us is, of course, that our so-called representatives are really their henchmen, not ours. And, so, the system has built-in safe guards for them. Why should they worry?
