Al Gore, Agenda 21 And Population Control

Al Gore, Agenda 21 And Population Control: "Imagine going to sleep one night and waking up many years later in a totally different world. In this futuristic world, literally everything you do is tightly monitored and controlled by control freak bureaucrats in the name of 'sustainable development' and with the goal of promoting 'the green agenda'. An international ruling body has centralized global control over all human activity. What you eat, what you drink, where you live, how warm or cold your home can be and how much fuel you can use is determined by them. Anyone that dissents or that tries to rebel against the system is sent off for 're-education'. The human population is 90 percent lower than it is today in this futuristic society, and all remaining humans have been herded into tightly constricted cities which are run much like prisons. Does all of that sound good to you? Well, this is what Agenda 21 is all about.

Yes, I know all this sounds like a plot from a science fiction novel. But it is actually real. 178 nations have signed on to Agenda 21. "Eco-prophets" such as Al Gore travel all over the world teaching us how wonderful "sustainable development" will be. This agenda is being pushed in our schools, at our universities, on our televisions and in our movies.

So exactly what is Agenda 21? The following is how the United Nations defines Agenda 21....

Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which human impacts on the environment.

When you start doing deep research into Agenda 21, you will find that describing it as a "comprehensive plan" is an understatement. Virtually all forms of human activity impact the environment..."

Editorial: Was Fast And Furious A Gun-Control Plot?

Editorial: Was Fast And Furious A Gun-Control Plot? - Investors.com: "Rather than a botched attempt to catch criminals, was the ATF program actually an attempt to advance gun-control efforts by an administration that has blamed Mexican violence on easy access to U.S. weapons?...

... ATF agent Olindo James Casa said that 'on several occasions I personally requested to interdict or seize firearms, but I was always ordered to stand down and not to seize the firearms.'

Yet, as we've noted, gun-tracking operations stopped at the border. That seems odd if the purpose was to catch gun traffickers and their drug-lord bosses. It makes sense, however, if the real purpose was to perpetuate, in the interests of pursuing the administration's gun-control agenda, what Bob Owens of Pajamas Media calls the '90% lie.'

Unwilling to guarantee a secure southern border, and as part of a campaign to reinstate an expired assault weapons ban, the administration has charged that much of Mexico's gun violence is our fault. Both governments have pushed the myth that 90% of weapons confiscated by Mexican authorities originate in the U.S.

Fox News has reported that, according to ATF Special Agent William Newell, Mexico sent about 11,000 guns to the U.S. for tracing in 2007-08, out of about 35,000 confiscated. Of that 11,000, 6,000 were successfully traced. And of that number, 5,114, or 90%, were found to have originated in the U.S.

Weapons that originated in foreign countries are not sent to the U.S. for tracing. Neither are weapons of Mexican army deserters or those stolen from armories.

Bill McMahon, ATF deputy assistant director, testified that of 100,000 weapons recovered by Mexican authorities, only 18,000 were made, sold or imported from the U.S. And of those 18,000, just 7,900 came from sales by licensed gun dealers. That's 8%, not 90%."

Ocean Presents Symptoms of Major Mass Extinctions

Ocean presents symptoms of major mass extinctions - English pravda.ru: "Under international study, marine species are at risk of entering a phase of unprecedented extinction

A new study indicates that marine ecosystems are facing even greater dangers than estimated so far by scientists, and are at risk of entering a phase of species extinction unprecedented in human history.

The survey was conducted by specialists who are part of the International Program on the State of the Ocean (IPSO, its acronym), an entity formed by scientists and other experts. The research brought together experts from different disciplines, including environmentalists specializing in coral reefs, scientists and toxicologists who specialize in fishing.

They concluded that factors such as overfishing, pollution and climate change are acting together in a way that had not been anticipated..."

The Post-Antibiotic Age

The Post-Antibiotic Age: "Megan McArdle has a rather grim post about bacterial antibiotic resistance:

The superbugs have not only gotten bad fast–from “not really an issue” in 1980 to a major problem today–but they seem to be getting badder faster, as they merrily borrow resistance-conferring genes from each other. Researchers now say they’re seeing resistance show up in the lab, before they even put the stuff into people.

Of course, the most worrying thing is not the effect on the budget. It’s the effect on the people. A world without antibiotics is a world of vast suffering and early death.

Unfortunately, there is no easy solution to this problem and a consideration of the history of antibiotics and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) may explain why..."

Stronger Ocean Currents Speed Melting Of Antarctic Ice

Nano Patents and Innovations: Stronger Ocean Currents Speed Melting Of Antarctic Ice: "Stronger ocean currents beneath West Antarctica's Pine Island Glacier Ice Shelf are eroding the ice from below, speeding the melting of the glacier as a whole, according to a new study in Nature Geoscience. A growing cavity beneath the ice shelf has allowed more warm water to melt the ice, the researchers say—a process that feeds back into the ongoing rise in global sea levels. The glacier is currently sliding into the sea at a clip of four kilometers (2.5 miles) a year, while its ice shelf is melting at about 80 cubic kilometers a year - 50 percent faster than it was in the early 1990s - the paper estimates..."

Experts Say Earthquake Surely Will Devastate the Northwest

Experts say an earthquake surely will devastate the Northwest | OregonLive.com: "Experts armed with seabed core samples and findings from Japan are ready to place odds on the likelihood of a giant earthquake rocking the Northwest.

Within the next 50 years, they say, Washington and northern Oregon face a 10 to 15 percent probability of an offshore quake powerful enough to kill thousands and launch a tsunami that would level coastal cities. Off southern Oregon, the probability of an 8-or-higher magnitude earthquake is greater -- 37 percent, according to Oregon State University's Chris Goldfinger, one of the world's top experts on subduction-zone quakes.

Goldfinger and other authorities who spoke at a Portland conference this week say the Northwest is dangerously unprepared for a massive quake they consider inevitable at some point. At least 300,000 Oregon children attend school in buildings vulnerable to collapse when the Big One comes..."

The Chinese Government Is Buying Up Economic Assets And Huge Tracts Of Land All Over The United States

The Chinese Government Is Buying Up Economic Assets And Huge Tracts Of Land All Over The United States: "In 2011, America is for sale and the communist Chinese are eager buyers. The Chinese government is using sovereign wealth funds and Chinese state-owned enterprises to buy up economic assets and huge tracts of land all over the United States. Many of our politicians hail all of this 'foreign investment' as something that is 'good for America', while many others see something much more sinister going on here. In any event, this is a trend that is rapidly accelerating and that is causing great concern among patriotic Americans..."

Killer Stars from Deep Black Space Could Threaten Earth

Killer stars from deep black space threaten Earth - English pravda.ru: "Outer space poses a threat to the Solar System. This time it was declared not by homegrown advocates of the near doomsday, but solid astrophysicists...

... researchers have compiled a list of stars that may represent a potential threat to Earth, for example, by approaching the Sun and impacting objects around it.

It turned out that of the 40,000 red dwarfs (objects of this class are most common in the universe) nearest to us, 18 are quite capable of 'attacking' the solar system.

One of the most dangerous objects is the Oort cloud, a giant bubble containing billions of ice and rock boulders. Researchers believe that these objects are constantly circulating through the solar system as comets, leaving deep craters when coming into contact with planets. They fell on Earth as well. Although the Oort cloud is located at a distance of 50,000 to 100,000 astronomical units from the Sun, under the influence of stellar gravity, planets in our solar system, including Earth, may undergo an active comet bombardment..."

Study Shows Rural Life is Better: Living in a Concrete Jungle Really Can Be More Stressful and Make You Vulnerable to Depression

A rural life is better: Living in a concrete jungle really can be more stressful and make you vulnerable to depression | Mail Online: "Scientists have confirmed what every urbanite has long suspected – life in the city is more stressful.

Researchers have shown that the parts of the brain dealing with stress and emotion are affected by living among the crowds.

The findings help shed light on why those who are born and raised in urban areas are more likely to suffer from anxiety, depression and schizophrenia than those brought up in the countryside..."

Medicinal Herb - Elderberry Flowers

Homesteading At Redtail Ridge: "Elderberry flowers are medicinal. I dried some last year for the first time. I never did make tea out of it. It ended up being chicken food. ..... I should have used it when I had that nasty cold. Elderberry flower is suppose to get rid of all that upper respiratory phlegm just like mullein does. It also helps with fevers, making it a great flu remedy, I know that's what was in the back of my head for keeping it and then I never did get the flu...yea! I'm drying more this year, specifically in case of flu..."

Swiss Renew Push for Bomb Shelters

Suddenly Switzerland sounds a little like Heaven to me.

Swiss Renew Push for Bomb Shelters - WSJ.com: "Switzerland, already home to more nuclear bunkers per capita than any other nation, has decided to pad its lead.

Mountainous and politically neutral, Switzerland has more than 300,000 bunkers, enough to shelter all 7.6 million Swiss with one million places to spare. But two decades after the end of the Cold War, the Swiss government says it needs more.

A 1978 law requires every new building to have a bomb shelter, and even as the fears of Armageddon that spurred the original law are now a distant memory, the Swiss have been adding 50,000 new spots a year. As recently as a few months ago, however, it looked like the Swiss were ready to stop digging...

... leftist politicians in Switzerland have mounted a 15-year campaign to abolish the law, and appeared to have victory in their grasp this spring: On March 9, Switzerland's lower house approved a motion to kill the old law. But two days later, an earthquake and tsunami in Japan crippled the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex and spread radioactive fallout across northeastern Japan. The leftists' push foundered.

In May, Switzerland's government decided to close the country's nuclear power plants by 2034. Even so, earlier this month, Swiss Parliament also decided the nation did in fact need more radiation-resistant refuges.

It is a particular Swissness that impels the rugged, conflict-averse country to press its global lead in bomb shelters. Preparedness is second nature in a country that popularized pocket knives with corkscrews, tweezers and toothpicks.

Long after other European countries have scrapped obligatory military service, Swiss men must still serve. Switzerland has more guns per capita than Iraq and Lebanon, trailing only the U.S. and Yemen. And while it hasn't fought a war in hundreds of years, it maintains thousands of cavernous mountain fortifications to fend off an attack..."

China Wants To Construct A 50 Square Mile Self-Sustaining City South Of Boise, Idaho

China Wants To Construct A 50 Square Mile Self-Sustaining City South Of Boise, Idaho: "Thanks to the trillions of dollars that the Chinese have made flooding our shores with cheap products, China is now in a position of tremendous economic power. So what is China going to do with all of that money? One thing that they have decided to do is to buy up pieces of the United States and set up 'special economic zones' inside our country from which they can continue to extend their economic domination. One of these 'special economic zones' would be just south of Boise, Idaho and the Idaho government is eager to give it to them. China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach for short) plans to construct a 'technology zone' south of Boise Airport which would ultimately be up to 50 square miles in size. The Chinese Communist Party is the majority owner of Sinomach, so the 10,000 to 30,000 acre 'self-sustaining city' that is being planned would essentially belong to the Chinese government. The planned 'self-sustaining city' in Idaho would include manufacturing facilities, warehouses, retail centers and large numbers of homes for Chinese workers. Basically it would be a slice of communist China dropped right into the middle of the United States..."

The Collapse of Nations All By The Hand Of Corrupt Bankers

The Collapse of Nations All By The Hand Of Corrupt Bankers : "As far as we can discern the US Treasury thus far has spent and borrowed about $100 billion from the federal pension accounts. Unless there is a vote on the cash debt extension prior to August 2nd, government will probably have borrowed some $250 billion to $300 billion. The Treasury is paying virtually no interest on this debt. Three-month Treasury bills are currently yielding zero percent. Our question is how will the funds be generated to fulfill the Treasury’s obligation to the pension fund? What happens if on August 2nd if legislation is not passed? Does this go on forever?...

... The current situation regarding the state of recovery in the US has turned from precarious to dismal and as we predicted a year ago May we will have to be treated to QE3 something no one really wants, but as we said before it is inevitable. The Fed and their controllers, the member bank owners of the Fed, know the present approach doesn’t work and it is only a matter of time, as a result of their policies, when more stimulus will be needed, which in turn leads to more inflation.

Due to the current state of affairs Fed Chairman Bernanke has been making one appearance on TV after another. He gets grilled over and over again and he doesn’t like the public reception at all. He shouldn’t, as more and more observers see that two quantitative easings haven’t worked. They cost at least $3.6 trillion in funds created out of thin air, and all they have done is prolong the agony. The flip side is the policy has caused higher inflation. What else can one expect when deficits astound and the Fed has to buy $1.6 trillion in Treasury bonds. A large percentage of this debt is used to wage perpetual war for perpetual peace. During this process the President has bypassed the Constitution and is deliberately repressing the freedoms of American citizens. There no longer is a separation of powers, but virtual dictatorship bought and paid for by Wall Street and banking.

It should be firmly implanted in your mind that your masters in government and those controlling government brazenly and arrogantly believe that they know better what is good for you, than you do. That is why when they speak to you their answers are dripping with condescension - as if to say, how dare you question what we tell you. Fed Chairman, Mr. Bernanke, is a perfect example of this. He, others and his predecessors have created a false economy based upon perpetual debt and upon money and credit being created out of thin air. Today that is accompanied with zero interest rates, a combination that in time can only bring a falling dollar, inflation and a collapsing economy. Mr. Bernanke appears to believe that an increased supply of money has little or no effect on the comparison between money and the prices of goods. He has to be living in a fairy tale land..."

Couple Homesteading in the Woods Using Shipping Containers As Housing

Have container, will settle: Couple homesteading in the woods of Ellsworth with a unique spin on housing — Maine News — Bangor Daily News: "Try as they might, Trevor Seip and Jennifer Sansosti cannot contain their excitement.

The young engaged couple recently shipped their lives from out of state to a rustic, 63-acre property... where they hope to build a home and future together.

They are not the first to move to rural Maine from a more heavily populated part of the East Coast — Pennsylvania in their case — with dreams of homesteading in the woods...

... But there aren’t many who do so while living inside former marine shipping containers. Seip and Sansosti, both in their late 20s, have two, each about 20 feet long and 8 feet wide and high, that they have modified into living units, complete with electricity and running water. They have spent much of the past year modifying the containers, which they bought on eBay for a total of $1,500... This spring they had them delivered to their former logging property...

... Inside one of the two containers, which they insulated, plumbed and wired themselves, is a table and bed that fold up against the wall, a cushioned bench seat, a sink, a camp stove, a wall-mounted propane heater, and a bathroom complete with composting toilet and full-size shower. In the other is a large storage closet and a folding futon that converts into a couch. Each has one or two windows and conventional residential doors...

... Seip and Sansosti designed their living units to exist off the grid. They installed energy-efficient LED lights, which they power off batteries, and they collect and then filter their water from the nearby stream or from a rain barrel they have on the roof. They already own electricity-producing solar panels, but are waiting to have the containers mounted on frost-proof concrete posts before they install and connect them. They also hope to erect a residential wind turbine at some point.

After the containers are set on the posts, facing each other a few feet apart end-to-end, they plan to install a sod roof across both that covers the space in between. A greenhouse, wood stove and adobe structures for additional living space also are part of their master plan...

... More information about the couples’ endeavor can be found online at their blog, www.thearkhaus.com..."

Soylent Green: Scientist Make Edible Artificial Steaks From Human Feces

Well, I have officially heard and seen it all. Overpopulation has so outstripped our ability to produce food (and is still getting inexorably worse) that we're creating ways to eat our own poop!

Says the article:

"The 'meat' is 63% proteins, 25% carbohydrates, 3% lipids and 9% minerals.

The researchers color the poop meat red with food coloring and enhance the flavor with soy protein. Initial tests have people saying it even tastes like beef."

Wonder how they convinced someone to taste it? :)

'Shocking' Report Warns Of Mass Extinction From Current Rate Of Marine Distress

State Of The Ocean: 'Shocking' Report Warns Of Mass Extinction From Current Rate Of Marine Distress: "If the current actions contributing to a multifaceted degradation of the world's oceans aren't curbed, a mass extinction unlike anything human history has ever seen is coming, an expert panel of scientists warns in an alarming new report.

The preliminary report from the International Programme on the State of the Ocean (IPSO) is the result of the first-ever interdisciplinary international workshop examining the combined impact of all of the stressors currently affecting the oceans, including pollution, warming, acidification, overfishing and hypoxia.

'The findings are shocking,' Dr. Alex Rogers, IPSO's scientific director, said in a statement released by the group. 'This is a very serious situation demanding unequivocal action at every level. We are looking at consequences for humankind that will impact in our lifetime, and worse, our children's and generations beyond that'..."

Top 25 Wildfires of All Time

Top 25 Wildfires of All Time: "Although some of the more commonly thought of natural disasters, such as hurricanes and earthquakes, can wipe out billions of dollars in property and take many lives, wildfires can also cause similar damage. Much like hurricanes, wildfires do have their season but have been known to crop up at many different times during the year. With more left to be learned about them, wildfires happened long before man occupied the world. All the uncertainty surrounding them can lead one to wonder with all the technology available to predict and fight fires, have they gotten better, or has a new breed of careless man from the guy who just dumps water on a campfire to the guy looking to collect insurance money just made things worse?

To judge for yourself, we have gathered the top 25 wildfires of all time below. They range from the local to the international, from the recent to the historical, and have numerous causes. Dry conditions, wind, and even the human intervention all make the list, which is ordered mostly by number of people thought to have been killed..."

Hidden Rooms Becoming More Popular

Eight Rooms, Well, Nine, but That’s Their Secret - New York Times: "ON a recent Saturday morning Cami Beghou, 13, pushed the right side of the tall, white bookcase that is built into one of the powder-pink walls in her bedroom. The bookcase, holding rows of books, a stuffed dachshund and a volleyball, silently swung outward, revealing a tiny, well-lighted room. Containing a desk, a chair and a laptop computer, it serves as her study area...

... Since March, when the Beghous moved into the house, Cami estimates that she has had about 30 friends over. Not one was able to detect the bookcase’s secret without guidance...

North Korea’s last round of tests, conducted in May 2009, appear to have included a “super-EMP” weapon, capable of emitting enough gamma rays to disable the electric power grid across most of the lower 48 states, says Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, a former CIA nuclear weapons analyst and president of EMPact America, a citizens lobbying group..."

African Village Uses Tech to Fight Off Rape Cult

Follow the link below to see what one African village did to fight back against marauders who victimized their community three years ago and would've continued to do so had they not seen to their own defense. Inspiring.

African Village Uses Tech to Fight Off Rape Cult | Danger Room | Wired.com: "... It was a familiar tragedy, repeated countless times across Central Africa since firebrand Christian cultist Joseph Kony created the LRA in the mid-1980s, aiming to establish a sort of voodoo theocracy in northern Uganda. Defeated in its home country, in 2005 the LRA fled westward across Sudan, Congo and Central African Republic, looting, raping, killing and mutilating as it went.

Obo was just one of hundreds of communities terrorized by the LRA. Many simply wither and die afterward.

But Obo didn’t.

Instead, Obo’s surviving villagers raised their own volunteer scout force (depicted above), armed it with homemade shotguns, and began disseminating intelligence on the LRA’s movements using the village’s sole, short-range FM radio transmitter.

The results of this do-it-yourself approach were encouraging. Since the attack three years ago, Obo has not suffered another major LRA invasion. Noting Obo’s successful strategy, Invisible Children, a California-based aid group, in March traveled into Central African Republic to help another American group, Interactive Radio for Justice, upgrade the town’s radio to a much longer-range model, further boosting the community’s self-defense capability..."

Practical Preparedness - Storage

Paratus Familia: Practical Preparedness - Storage: "All preppers that I know have a common problem. Storage space. It doesn't seem to matter how big your house is or how many outbuildings you have, when it comes to preparedness nuts, there is no such thing as enough storage space. We have lived in everything from a 2200 square foot house with a shop and a barn to our current 1200 square foot 'shouse' with no outbuildings (save our 40 foot shipping container) and precious little storage space. Regardless of our living situation, we never seem to have enough storage for our preparedness supplies.

Over the years, we have refined what we store and how we store it. In the beginning of our preparedness/survivalist journey, we stored anything and everything we could think of. While, to us, this seemed like great wisdom, we eventually learned that if we don't use something now, chances are, will will not use it at the end of the world. Storing 2000 pounds of buckwheat when you hate buckwheat not only is a huge waste of money, it is also a waste of storage space..."

DIY Chlorine Generator for Water Purification

DIY Chlorine Generator for Water Purification |: "... Safe Water International Ministries [SWIM] the developers of the CPU that is the focus of today’s article.

SWIM has developed the CPU to provide a chlorinating solution for water disinfection in third world countries. I would highly recommend you check out their website and consider donating to their mission as they are doing wonderful work.

If you want a CPU, but don’t have a DIY gene or interest in building one yourself, SWIM sells complete CPU tool box kit which includes an instruction card, a chlorine test kit, 2 mixing bottles, a salt measuring cup, and a couple of solution droppers. All you need to provide is 12 volts of electricity, salt, and water. A donation of $150 to their ministry would support this kit.

I wanted to turn this into a project so I gave a $50 donation and received the anode and cathode from them. They will email you the plans for free if you contact them on the website, and they have a technology link online with the instruction manual and a basic lesson plan for teaching this to others...

... Basically what happens is when you bridge the electrodes with a salt water solution and apply an electrical charge to them you start a chemical reaction called electrolysis. In this particular process the water bubbles and produces a caustic chlorine solution roughly half as strong as laundry bleach. After the 9/11 attacks many municipal water treatment plants converted to this process so that they could remove their one ton chlorine gas tanks from their sites to mitigate their attractiveness as a terrorist target..."

Homemade Compost Bin Plans

Follow each link below to see all steps.

Pallet Compost Bin: "Going green and creating your own compost bin isn't as hard as you might think. All those grass clippings, plant prunings, and other yard stuff is easily recycled into compost. The project is simple.

You need pallets, wire (to bind them together), some simple tools, and any extra hardware you would like to add for ease of use.

Your going to need 4 pallets minimum. If you decide on a slanted base (floor), you'll need another pallet. Some people may choose a slanted base design to catch the 'tea' that your composter produces when watering your compost. The 'tea' can be diluted and sprayed on your plants.

We don't have a slanted base in this design. Simple is easier. We're going with 3 sides and a door.

Choose your lay out. I don't need a huge bin, so I opted to stand the sides up to narrow the bins depth. Plus, it gives me a 2x4 side to attach my hinges to..."

Over 20 million home gardens, apartment rooftop plants and community plots produced 9-10 million tons of produce; equal to the amount of commercial production at that time. Things to Expect Under Martial Law

Things to Expect Under Martial Law - ol remus and the woodpile report: "Societal collapse and, as the faux-genteel put it, civil unrest scenarios are sure to include martial law. When the Department of Education places an order for police-style shotguns, when they mount—and botch—armed home invasions for what used to be routine process serving, when even the Railroad Retirement Board and the Small Business Administration are carrying, the citizen can be excused for thinking the entirety of government is thisclose to going Soviet. But don't look for a declaration of martial law, in the US the term for martial law is state of emergency. A state of emergency was declared during Katrina for instance, by the city of New Orleans and by Louisiana with federal assistance from FEMA. It was, in addition to being de facto martial law, a series of pathetic pratfalls which added to the suffering and death.

A 'National State of Emergency' is national martial law plain and simple, other than in name. We were in a national state of emergency from 1939 to 1945 for World War II and from 1950 to 1978 for the Cold War. We are now in a national state of emergency and have been since September 2001. It's administered discreetly and with softened edges, but martial law it is. It's been made largely unobtrusive but forbearance is always at their pleasure, not ours. When the federal government declares a national state of emergency the lead agency is the Department of Homeland Security, under the direction of the Commander In Chief. It's why the TSA can grope you and your kids with impunity, it's why local police have been equipped with combat gear and armored vehicles and fill-in-the-blank search warrants, it's why the armed forces train for urban warfare and nation-building rather than to defeat other armies or repel invasion.

As extensive as the DHS's resources are, one component is notably shy about its presence: the military. Occasionally they've made cameo appearances, in New Orleans for instance, where federal troops conducted door-to-door home invasions to disarm the citizenry, a betrayal of their countrymen and of their oath to defend the Constitution* but not the full-on military occupation favored in movies and doomer novels. The Insurrection Act of 1807 really puts the martial in martial law.

The Insurrection Act remains as written two centuries ago, even after some legal waffling in recent years, and it's a show-stopper. Plainly put, it authorizes the President to deploy federal troops within the United States to put down lawlessness, insurrection or rebellion. Should he do so, the Executive Orders are in place and the military leadership is in place under the name The United States Northern Command. Not incidentally, "Northern" means the northern hemisphere, and for the reason the so-called tinfoil hats say it is. NorthCom is authorized to deploy foreign troops on US soil. The mobilization plan is called the Northern National Security Emergency Preparedness Directorate. It's the White House's "nuclear option." Under this plan, units from the armed forces would be deployed and directed by NorthCom, placing our beloved land under the sort of military regimes seen in occupied Europe during the 1939-1945 war.

Here is what to expect under 'worst case scenario' martial law..."

Take The Hint -- NASA Pushing Preparedness Plan Agenda For Its Personnel

Take heed folks! At nearly every turn, the government itself is the same as admitting that we should look to ourselves, not them, for our safety and survival; including some strong words from the newly-appointed FEMA Administrator (in August 2009) and suggesting people give survivalist gear as Christmas gifts. Mind you: your government suggested that, not some fringe internet whacko.

It is a wise person who can read the writing on the wall and a foolish one who ignores it.

NASA - Headquarters Emergency Operations - Personal/Family Preparedness Plan: "A major initiative has been placed on Family/Personal Preparedness for all NASA personnel. The NASA/Family Preparedness Program is designed to provide awareness, resources, and tools to the NASA Family (civil servants and contractors) to prepare for an emergency situation. The most important assets in the successful completion of NASA’s mission are our employees’ and their families. We are taking the steps to prepare our workforce, but it is your personal obligation to prepare yourself and your families for emergencies..."

FBI Expands Agents’ Investigative Power

FBI expands agents’ investigative power | The Salt Lake Tribune: "The Federal Bureau of Investigation is giving significant new powers to its roughly 14,000 agents — allowing them more leeway to search databases, go through household trash or use surveillance teams to scrutinize the lives of people who have attracted their attention.

The FBI soon plans to issue a new edition of its manual, called the Domestic Investigations and Operations Guide, according to an official who has worked on the draft document and several others who have been briefed on its contents. The new rules add to several measures taken over the past decade to give agents more latitude as they search for signs of criminal or terrorist activity.

The FBI recently briefed several privacy advocates about the coming changes. Among them, Michael German, a former FBI agent who is now a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union, argued it was unwise to further ease restrictions on agents’ power to use potentially intrusive techniques, especially if they lacked a firm reason to suspect someone of wrongdoing..."

Giving Survivalists Everywhere A Bad Name

Scum like this guy is why people think we're all cooks.

Authorities Scale Back Search for 'Real-Life Rambo' - FoxNews.com: "The ground hunt for a former Montana militia leader accused of firing a gun at sheriff's deputies was scaled back Tuesday after authorities said the suspect disappeared into the woods near the Idaho border.

Missoula County Undersheriff Mike Dominick says law enforcement agents would continue to search a 50-square-mile area centered on the Lolo National Forest in the search for ex-convict David Burgert.

But Dominick said Burgert -- a practiced survivalist -- could have escaped the area where the search initially focused..."

DVD Review: Food Production Systems for a Backyard or Small Farm

Recently, I was contacted by the folks at Backyard Food Production, a small independent organization out of central TX dedicated to helping people grow their own food and becoming self-sufficient. They requested me to review a DVD they produced titled "Food Production Systems for a Backyard or Small Farm," and, as it is a subject I think bears a lot of consideration and I am always on the hunt for suitable content for the site, I agreed... and I must say I'm happy that I did.

First, the bona fides: the email I received states, "Our founder, Marjory Wildcraft, is a nationally recognized expert in backyard food production systems. Her video is endorsed and carried by such notables as The Permaculture Activist, Acre's USA, SurvivalBlog.com, The Survival Podcast (with Jack Spirko), The Power Hour (with Joyce Riley), Alex Jones, and Ecology Action's Bountiful Gardens." So, let's just understand, right-off, that these folks know they're stuff and, upon watching the DVD, this is proven accurate.

The DVD is just under two hours long, split into many different modules, each dedicated to a different sub-topic and conveniently accessed from a root menu; meaning it will be much easier to go back to it later as a reference source. It is explained that their family originally set-out with the goal of becoming as self-sufficient and self-sustainable as possible for some of the same reasons that drive readers to visit blogs like this one, which I found to be rather refreshing. Also refreshing is the admission that accomplishing that goal wasn't easy and was fraught with mistakes they had to learn from -- mistakes you and I can benefit from without having to make as many of our own. The other great thing about this course is that many of the ideas expressed could work very well in any backyard garden, whether complete self-sufficiency is the goal or not.

Be advised: there is one scene where the butchering of a rabbit is demonstrated, including the kill. Though done quickly and humanely, it can be a little jarring -- especially if you aren't expecting it. The thing to remember, though, is that these rabbits aren't pets. They've been raised as a source of meat protein and skins, and, overall, it is very informative. Also, this DVD does not cover the raising of any livestock other than rabbits and chickens, as larger stock requires far more land to sustain. Hopefully, they'll cover those subjects later in another video course.

Included with the DVD is a resource disc containing lots of PDF documents, covering subjects like home composting and seed saving, among many others.

Overall, a very informative resource, in my opinion, and I highly recommend it.

Washington Residents Warned of 'Bloodthirsty' Dog Pack

Expect this to be a rampant problem in any future crash scenario as irresponsible owners simply abandon pets they can no longer feed.

My Way News - Wash. residents warned of 'bloodthirsty' dog pack: "A 'bloodthirsty' pack of dogs has killed about 100 animals in the past few months while eluding law enforcement and volunteers in northeastern Washington state, residents and authorities said.

The killings started in late March and have occurred in a wide area of mountains and valleys west of Deer Park, a small town about 40 miles north of Spokane...

... Most recently, the dogs killed a 350-pound llama Tuesday night. They've also killed goats and other farm animals.

So far, no humans have been attacked. But authorities are warning residents to take whatever steps are necessary to protect their families and animals because the dogs appear to be killing for fun rather than food.

'We have this pack that is out there killing for the sake of killing,' Webb said in a telephone interview from Colville. 'What is going to happen if they come across a small child?'..."

How Healthy is Rabbit Meat?

Green-Trust.Org | How Healthy is Rabbit Meat?:"We are all concerned about our health (or at least we should be!) and one great thing about raising your own rabbit meat is not only that you’ll know exactly what has gone into your rabbit, but you’ll also be eating a leaner protein-rich diet. Pound-for-pound, rabbit meat has FAR MORE protein and LESS fat than other meats. This means you’ll not only be spending less for food, but you’ll have the extra health benefit too!

Take a look at this chart on the nutritional values of rabbit meat and other popular meats:

Calories, Protein & Fat Values for Meat per 100 grams (3.5 oz).

Meat Calories Protein Fat (g)
RABBIT 187 27 8
Beef (lean) 275 25 20
Pork chops (grilled) 340 28 24
Pork leg (roast) 290 27 20
Lamb breast (roast) 398 22 30
Lamb chops (grilled) 368 21 28
Lamb cutlets (grilled) 375 23 31
Venison 200 34 6.5
Chicken 140 26 12
Turkey 165 28 6
Duck (roast) 330 20 30
Goose (roast) 350 30 25
Pheasant (roast) 250 30 9

Rabbit meat is so healthy and lean that some doctors actually prescribe a rabbit meat diet to people who are overweight and obese. Because the fat and calorie levels are so low, but protein so high, one can radically change their life by eating a rabbit meat diet and exercising.

Does that mean that it would be healthy to eat only rabbit meat all the time with no additional other foods? Actually no. Because rabbit meat is so lean, your body can actually suffer if you eat nothing but rabbit meat all the time because it does not contain enough fat. So the good news is, you’re encouraged to eat other foods that you might not otherwise get to eat because of their fat content — thanks to rabbit meat!

Food Supply Under Strain

The jury is still out for me when it comes to man-made, or so-called "Anthropomorphic" Global Warming; but, whether warming or cooling and whether it is a natural cycle or caused by human industrial activity, only a fool would deny that the climate is clearly changing and playing havoc with our future survival.

Another important factor to consider is overpopulation (see also here). We are only able to feed the people we do now because of oil inputs, the future of which are rather shaky -- most of the cheap, easy-to-get-at oil is already gone or will be very soon (see also here and here and here and here and here), promising a difficult and much more expensive future. Add to that the fact that we are steadily poisoning (also here and here) or otherwise depleting (also here and here and here)our fresh water supply and overusing i.e. depleting our precious fertile topsoil (and here), and the future promises to be interesting at the very least.

Here are a few more nuggets from the Backwoods Survival Blog archives that you might find interesting with respect to this subject:

We Are Following The Same Food Supply Patterns As Previously Collapsed, Failed Societies

Food Supply Under Strain on a Warming Planet - NYTimes.com: "The dun wheat field spreading out at Ravi P. Singh’s feet offered a possible clue to human destiny. Baked by a desert sun and deliberately starved of water, the plants were parched and nearly dead.

Dr. Singh, a wheat breeder, grabbed seed heads that should have been plump with the staff of life. His practiced fingers found empty husks.

'You’re not going to feed the people with that,' he said.

But then, over in Plot 88, his eyes settled on a healthier plant, one that had managed to thrive in spite of the drought, producing plump kernels of wheat...

... Hope in a stalk of grain: It is a hope the world needs these days, for the great agricultural system that feeds the human race is in trouble...

... The rapid growth in farm output that defined the late 20th century has slowed to the point that it is failing to keep up with the demand for food, driven by population increases and rising affluence in once-poor countries.

Consumption of the four staples that supply most human calories — wheat, rice, corn and soybeans — has outstripped production for much of the past decade, drawing once-large stockpiles down to worrisome levels. The imbalance between supply and demand has resulted in two huge spikes in international grain prices since 2007, with some grains more than doubling in cost.

Those price jumps, though felt only moderately in the West, have worsened hunger for tens of millions of poor people, destabilizing politics in scores of countries, from Mexico to Uzbekistan to Yemen. The Haitian government was ousted in 2008 amid food riots, and anger over high prices has played a role in the recent Arab uprisings.

Now, the latest scientific research suggests that a previously discounted factor is helping to destabilize the food system: climate change.

Many of the failed harvests of the past decade were a consequence of weather disasters, like floods in the United States, drought in Australia and blistering heat waves in Europe and Russia. Scientists believe some, though not all, of those events were caused or worsened by human-induced global warming.

Temperatures are rising rapidly during the growing season in some of the most important agricultural countries, and a paper published several weeks ago found that this had shaved several percentage points off potential yields, adding to the price gyrations.

For nearly two decades, scientists had predicted that climate change would be relatively manageable for agriculture, suggesting that even under worst-case assumptions, it would probably take until 2080 for food prices to double.

In part, they were counting on a counterintuitive ace in the hole: that rising carbon dioxide levels, the primary contributor to global warming, would act as a powerful plant fertilizer and offset many of the ill effects of climate change.

Until a few years ago, these assumptions went largely unchallenged. But lately, the destabilization of the food system and the soaring prices have rattled many leading scientists..."

Food Chain[s] at Risk of Being Poisoned by Terrorist Groups

Food chain at risk of being poisoned by terrorist groups - Telegraph: "Manufacturers and retailers have been told that their sector is vulnerable to attacks by ideologically and politically motivated groups that may seek to cause widespread casualties and disruption by poisoning food supplies.

The warning from the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure [CPNI], which operates as part of the Security Service, comes as experts warned the deadly E.coli outbreak in Germany has highlighted the vulnerability of the food chain and how quickly bacteria can spread.

The highly virulent strain has claimed 18 lives and left more than 1,800 seriously ill, with the true number of cases expected to be far higher.

A senior German doctor last night called for an investigation into the possibility that the bacteria had been spread deliberately.

Klaus-Dieter Zastrow, chief doctor for hygiene at Berlin’s Vivantes hospital, said: 'It’s quite possible that there’s a crazy person out there who thinks 'I’ll kill a few people or give 10,000 people diarrhoea’. It’s a negligent mistake not to investigate in that direction.'..."

NASA's Solar Shield to Protect Power Grids From Sun Storms

NASA's Solar Shield to Protect Power Grids From Sun Storms | Space.com: "NASA has devised a new tool in the battle against massive eruptions from the sun: an early warning system to protect electrical grids on Earth from extremely powerful solar storms.

The new project, called Solar Shield, is designed to predict the severity of powerful sun storms at specific locations on Earth to help power companies plan responses and limit the potential damage to their equipment...

... The sun is currently going through a more active phase of its 11-year solar weather cycle. It has been emerging from a prolonged lull in activity and is expected to hit the peak of the current cycle in 2013.

When the magnetic field associated with a CME encounters the Earth?s magnetic field, the two merge and an enormous amount of energy is transferred to the geomagnetosphere. This resulting current can affect astronauts or satellites in space, as well as commercial power grids.

If the CME is strong enough, the grids can become overburdened or damaged. The resulting blackout could last anywhere from hours to months, depending on the amount of damage sustained...

... The predictions from NASA's Solar Shield could potentially help avoid the worst of the damage, researchers said..."

A Letter RE: "The Dangers of Fukushima Are Worse and Longer-Lived Than We Think"

An anonymous reader, in response to yesterday's article: The Dangers of Fukushima Are Worse and Longer-Lived Than We Think, said:

"27 deaths so far from ecoli in Europe, more every day. lets put this in perspective. There is no risk to anyone from these nuclear power plants unless they get up close and personal with them. If you are outside the restricted zone you are already getting more radiation from other sources then from these power plants. The radiation will decrease dramatically over time and these plants will be sealed up for 20-40 years until they have cooled enough to be dismantled. But in the mean time be careful of raw vegetables..."

My Response: I agree that one must be cognizant of all possible dangers, not just the high-profile ones; but, I find fault with the assumption that "There is no risk to anyone from these nuclear power plants unless they get up close and personal with them."

True: those who are "outside the restricted zone... are already getting more radiation from other sources then from these power plants."  But, what this fails to take into account are that wind patterns can shift at any moment, carrying radiation well beyond the restricted zone.

And, all of that radiation going into the Pacific is no less a threat, though it is more of a long-term one.  People seem to think that, because the oceans are so big, you can just use them as a toilet and whatever ends up there is just diffused into nothingness, but that isn't true. There is, to this day, some scientific evidence (though admittedly not conclusive) that points to Chernobyl as a contributing cause for some of the higher cancer rates all over the world in the following decades, and that's from radiation being carried to the sea by rivers, etc., giving even more opportunity for diffusion.

Privacy Vampires

Enter the latest enemy: Spokeo.com. A family member recently sent me the following message:

"I hate Spokeo. It is a site that compiles a *LOT* of information on people in one spot. Anyone willing to pay can retrieve your emails, pictures from your social networking sites (even if private), phone numbers, spending habits, income, and more. Even if you have removed your listing(s) before, apparently you need to do it again; the site updates 'regularly'.

Once you find your info: copy the URL and click on Privacy (bottom of page), scroll down and fill out the form. Also, you can only use an email twice, so spread the word so everyone can remove their own listings."

Flooded-Out Farmer Needs Permit to Remove Fish From His Own Land

Apparently our government here in the U.S. isn't the only one running amok...

Flooded-out farmer needs permit to remove fish | Canada | News | London Free Press: "Bureaucrats have added insult to injury for a corn farmer south of Montreal whose fields have been damaged by near-record flooding.

Martin Reid says he's been forced to buy a fishing licence to remove carp that are swimming in a metre of water on his flooded-out fields.

He says he bought the permit to avoid the problems he faced the last time he was forced to remove fish from his flooded farmland. In 1993, Reid was fined $1,000 for illegal fishing..."

10 States At Most Risk Of Disaster

10 states at most risk of disaster - dangerous places - MSN Money: "Deadly tornadoes ripped through the Midwest in late May, from Minnesota to Oklahoma -- devastating Joplin, Mo., on May 22, in particular. On June 2, twisters touched down in central and western Massachusetts, killing three. And about a month earlier, dozens of tornadoes hit the southeastern United States, leaving a wide swath of property destruction and killing more than 250 people -- the worst series of such storms in almost 40 years. These grim scenes were a reminder that Americans should always be prepared for common disasters like twisters, floods, hurricanes, wildfires and winter storms.

Where have these damaging events occurred most frequently and severely? Kiplinger.com worked with ISO, a leading source of insurance risk information, to identify the 10 states that have suffered the biggest property losses from disasters over the past decade..."

The Dangers of Fukushima Are Worse and Longer-Lived Than We Think

Exclusive Arnie Gundersen Interview: The Dangers of Fukushima Are Worse and Longer-lived Than We Think | Before It's News: "'I have said it's worse than Chernobyl and I’ll stand by that. There was an enormous amount of radiation given out in the first two to three weeks of the event. And add the wind blowing in-land. It could very well have brought the nation of Japan to its knees. I mean, there is so much contamination that luckily wound up in the Pacific Ocean as compared to across the nation of Japan - it could have cut Japan in half. But now the winds have turned, so they are heading to the south toward Tokyo and now my concern and my advice to friends that if there is a severe aftershock and the Unit 4 building collapses, leave. We are well beyond where any science has ever gone at that point and nuclear fuel lying on the ground and getting hot is not a condition that anyone has ever analyzed.'

So cautions Arnie Gundersen, widely-regarded to be the best nuclear analyst covering Japan's Fukushima disaster. The situation on the ground at the crippled reactors remains precarious and at a minimum it will be years before it can be hoped to be truly contained. In the near term, the reactors remain particularly vulnerable to sizable aftershocks, which still have decent probability of occuring. On top of this is a growing threat of 'hot particle' contamination risk to more populated areas as weather patterns shift with the typhoon season and groundwater seepage..."

Kevlar Bunker Provides Safe House for Tornado Survivor

Kevlar Bunker Provides Safe House for Tornado Survivor - FoxNews.com: "Diana Swenson came within just minutes of becoming a tornado casualty when a vicious twister swept into her hometown of Joplin, Mo.

Instead, she survived to tell her story thanks to a shelter constructed of Kevlar, the same material used to make the life-saving bulletproof vests worn by police officers.

Swenson's home was among the hundreds that were recently battered and destroyed by a vicious tornado. The 200 mph winds sheared off her roof, puncturing large holes in her ceiling. Her furniture was thrown everywhere, and her windows were shattered.

She says that minutes before the twister hit, she ran into the 4 foot by 4 foot shelter that was bolted to her concrete garage floor made of Kevlar.

'I grabbed my weather radio, my flashlight and my cat and went into my shelter. And then in about 10 minutes that storm hit.'

Swenson said her shelter, made by the Wilmington, Del.-based DuPont Co., didn't budge, even as the twister blew a hole in the garage ceiling above.

'When it hit, it was like chaos outside of the shelter. I mean you could hear everything, but my shelter did not flinch during that whole thing. You know I'm amazed.'

Swenson stayed inside that shelter until the tornado passed. When she exited, unlike her shelter, her entire neighborhood was demolished. More than 130 people in her town were killed..."

Pickup Truck That Runs on Wood

Pickup runs on wood: "A lot of people complain about the high price of gasoline but Ron Lemler did something about it.

The Marshall County man built a hybrid vehicle—that runs on wood.

'I don’t have to use any gas (gasoline),' said Lemler. 'I feel bad for everybody else you know, that has to pay the price, but whenever it (the price of gasoline) goes up more, I just drive my truck more,' said Lemler.

Lemler has a 1960 Ford F250 pickup truck with a complex wood burning contraption bolted down in the back bed.

On this day, Ron poured small pieces of oak into a cylindrical 'wood gas generator,' which was located just behind the passenger cab, and actually stood higher than the roof of the cab...

... The entire process is a bit like lighting a bar-b-que grill, but in this case, the contraption extracts gas from the burning wood, cools it, and then feeds it to what’s behind the grill of his pickup...

... Lemler pushed down a lever mounted to the left of the driver seat that switched the fuel source from gasoline to wood gas. He then turned the key.

Although truck didn’t start on the first try, it wasn’t long before it did, and he was lumbering down the highway.

'It has a little bit of smell,' said Lemler. 'Like bar-b-que almost.'..."

Patri Friedman Makes Waves With 'Seasteading' Plan

Patri Friedman makes waves with 'seasteading' plan: "Milton Friedman's grandson Patri has a vision that might have made the economist proud: to build a floating libertarian nation 12 miles off the coast of California.

Billed as 'Burning Man meets Silicon Valley meets the water,' the planned nation flotilla would be constructed on a variety of barges and water platforms within sight of San Francisco. It would include everything from homes, schools and hospitals to bikes for transportation and aqua farms for food.

Despite the widespread skepticism that the project is bound to invite, Friedman already has secured more than $2 million in venture capital for the development, which strives to create a free-market society in which members are free to form their own governing structures..."

07 June, 2011

All the talk these days seems to revolve around the upcoming Presidential elections (never mind that they're more than a year away); of Obama's dismal performance and chances of re-elections or of who the Republicans will be sending in against him.  More and more, it looks as though it will be Mitt Romney and I will be voting for the poor, honest and admirable Ron Paul who will never have a chance.  Sigh.  Anyhow, the unavoidable and raucous (and pointless, by the way) debates have already begun between zealots of the left and right, so I thought I would take a moment to explain my views.

In reality, nothing has truly changed since the so-called feudal "Dark Ages."  The only real differences between then and now is that the economy is no longer largely based on agrarian pursuits and both the French and American Revolutions served to show the aristocracy that the people would no longer stand for the status quo.  They had to do something, after all, to keep we the unwashed rabble from lopping off the rest of their heads.  So, in response, they have served us the "illusion" of freedom, but in reality, our overlords are no longer Kings and Barons, but rather international bankers with politicians as their willing lackeys, and instead of threatening to cleave our heads in two with a sword, they instead hold us in their thrall with an almost inescapable system of debt.

Instead of living in huts and grubbing in the dirt for a feudal lord, we can live any way we choose -- as long as we're willing to ruin ourselves with debt, and thus further enslave ourselves to them.  You may not be working for a man out in the field with a whip who will throw you out of your house if you refuse him; but, you work as many jobs as you have to, in order to pay off the credit you were extended; and, if you fail or refuse to pay, guess what happens?  You get thrown out of your house and off your land the same way you would have centuries ago, and yet somehow people fail to see that the results have never changed.

We actively live under a system nestled somewhere between serfdom and indentured servitude, and very few people even recognize it for what it is.  And, so, as far as the political discussions go, you are only choosing which underling of the true slavemasters you prefer over the other; the slavemasters themselves never change.
